YOUNG AND TECH-SAVVY POPULATION

YOUNG AND TECH-SAVVY POPULATION

The existence of a young and tech-savvy population gives rise to two fundamental questions: Is there enough workforce to hire and is there a market for digital economy from this demographic? With two-thirds of Indonesia’s population sitting at a productive working age, and a promising 81.72% internet penetration, where 62.9% of the citizens are active on social media, Indonesia may just get to the heart of the matter.

Indonesia's current population comprises 69% working age, largely Gen Z and millennials. This means that Indonesia has a deep and young labour pool, with enough workers to supply large industries. It also opens a window of opportunity: with working-age people far outnumbering dependents, more income is freed up for spending, saving and investing. The people you hire today are also the consumers driving demand tomorrow, whether you're staffing a factory floor, a customer service centre or a tech team.

Moreover, Indonesia's population is already online. In 2026, internet users reached 235 million, or 81.72% of the population, with penetration rising every year since 2022. Social media user identities stand at 180 million. So whether you're building in e-commerce, fintech or digital services, Indonesia already has a strong consumer base that doesn't have to be brought online beforehand. Despite this, there is growing opportunity for investment as access is still disproportionate, such as with Java's internet penetration reaching 85.95%, while Maluku and Papua sit lowest at 69.74%.

With a workforce ready to hire, and a population that is ready for the digital economy, this is what a young, tech-savvy Indonesia promises.
