Indonesia business forum 2023 - "starting a conversation on Indonesia's sustainable economy"
Melbourne, October 6, 2023 - The Indonesian Business Forum 2023 commenced at the State Library Victoria in Melbourne. This significant event is a collaborative effort between the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne and the Festival Indonesia, bringing together influential stakeholders to deliberate upon Indonesia's sustainable investment prospects and their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
One of the major talking points at the event is Indonesia's ambitious renewable energy goals. The Indonesian government has set a target to achieve 23% renewable energy in the national energy mix by 2025, with further plans to increase it to 31% by 2050. These objectives underscore the need for increased investments in renewable energy initiatives. In parallel, Indonesia is actively fostering an environment conducive to the growth of the electric vehicle (EV) industry, offering a greener and more efficient transportation alternative.
Moreover, the forum recognized the inherent synergy between Indonesia's sustainable economy goals and the UN SDGs, as sustainability inherently encompasses social, environmental, and economic dimensions. This holistic approach aligns seamlessly with the objectives of the UN SDGs, allowing for the simultaneous pursuit of multiple sustainable development goals.
H.E. Dr. Siswo Pramono, Indonesia's Ambassador to Australia and Vanuatu, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the pivotal role played by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in advancing sustainability. SMEs are already contributing significantly through sustainable agriculture practices, eco-friendly tourism endeavors, and the development of renewable energy solutions.
The event was enriched by the presence of distinguished speakers and panelists, including Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Rizki Handayani Mustaf; Director of IIPC Sydney, Haryo Sedewo; Lead Adviser of Market Integration at Katalis, David Mitchell; Founder of Terratai, Matt Leggett; and Co-founder of Ladang Lima, Annisa Pratiwi.
During this business trip IIPC Sydney and the Ministry of Tourism along with the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne, were also had a chance to visit the Martha Cove Marina with its servicing and maintenance facility to obtain better understanding on how to attract marina investment in Indonesia.
