2023 national investment coordination meeting
Indonesia's investment ministry is holding the 2023 National Investment Coordination Meeting (Rakornas Investasi) on Thursday (12/07/2023) at the Balai Kartini Exhibition and Convention Center in Jakarta. During this event, President of Indonesia Joko Widodo encourages increased investments that bring added value, create employment, and contribute to national and regional revenues.
The President emphasized the continuous growth of investments, highlighting their role in generating state and regional revenues. He underscored the importance of partnerships between investors and local and national entrepreneurs to optimize investment impacts.
Furthermore, President Jokowi urged a special focus on investments geared towards export products. He also emphasized the need to concentrate on investments driving economic growth, creating jobs, and providing high added value through industrial downstreaming.
President Jokowi pointed out the significance of downstreaming by citing the example of nickel exports, which saw a substantial increase from $3.3 billion in 2017 to $33.8 billion in 2022 after undergoing downstreaming. He also acknowledged the global shift towards environmentally friendly and sustainable investments, urging efforts to seize opportunities in green and blue economies highlighted the promising future of investments in geothermal, solar panels, power plants, and hydropower.
The event was attended by governors, regents, and mayors from across Indonesia. President Jokowi urged local leaders to promote investments in their regions, with a particular emphasis on boosting investments outside of Java as current investment outside Java exceeds that on the island (52% to 48%).
Accompanying President Jokowi at the event were Interim Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Erick Thohir, Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency Hadi Tjahjanto, and Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian.
